Ali began Wado Ryu Karate at the local Karate club her children attended in 1985.

She remained with the club progressing through the Kyu grades to reach 1st Dan status in 1990. She began assistant instructing the classes from 4th Kyu upwards eventually opening her own Club in 1993 whilst still carrying on her training. She trained at many courses throughout the country and gained a great deal of knowledge and experience both through the courses and also competitions entered.

Having reached 2nd Dan grade in 1992, 3rd in 1995 and 4th Dan in 2000 she reached the point where the teaching was taking away her time to train she made the decision to close her own Club and after having met Suzuki Sensei joined his Club in Croydon. Suzuki Sensei recognised her 4th Dan grade in 2001 when he awarded her this grade and she has since then remained as an assistant instructor at this Club taking part in as much extra training outside the Club as time will allow.
