SANBON GUMITE – MAEGERI UKE (Kick Blocks)

It is difficult to describe the movements in words, so use the description below to gain a high level understanding of the technique.  Practise of these movements with your instructor is the only way you will be able to perform these techniques to the required standard.  It is also important that the defender uses the first two attacks to gauge the distance of their opponent's strikes.  On the third attack, you must not show your counter attack too quickly, so always keep facing opponent until the last moment, then execute your attack. 

 

1.        Chudan Maegeri Ipponme

Hip twist (moving out of line of kick) blocking kick with left hand.  Right Gyakuzuki to Right Kidney.

2.       Chudan Maegeri Nihonme

Half-step back with Right foot and hip twist into Left stance, blocking with Left hand.  Right Gyakuzuki Chudan.

3.       Chudan Maegeri Sanbonme

Surikomi (Half Step) Maegeri Chudan

Half-step back with Left foot and hip twist into Right stance, blocking with Right hand.  Left Gyakuzuki Chudan.

4.       Chudan Maegeri Yonhonme

Half-step forward, twisting into Horse-riding stance, simultaneously using Left forearm to block kick as knee rises and simultaneous Right Punch to solar plexus.

5.       Chudan Maegeri Gohonme
